Attention Minooka Residents!

The downtown grain silos have been part of Minooka’s landscape for decades, and public input is being gathered for the future of the site. The privately owned property has not been used for grain storage in approximately five years. With limited prospects for grain operations to resume, the Village has been working with the property owner to explore options for the site’s future.

These options include leaving the property as it is, removing all structures, or removing some structures while retaining a portion of the familiar “Minooka skyline.” Each approach involves considerations related to local history, safety, maintenance, cost, and potential future use. Complete demolition of the approximately 0.95-acre site is estimated to cost $1.8 million. The Village has an opportunity to apply for federal grant funding administered by the State of Illinois that could help fund eligible demolition work and the creation of public open space. If awarded the grant for partial or full demolition the Village would become the owner of the property. Any grant award and the amount of funding would depend on the application and approval process.

The Village is seeking residents’ input as it considers these options. Please indicate your preference below.
